At Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic in Knoxville, Tennessee, our doctor is board-certified and fellowship-trained in orthopedic surgery, and our highly skilled staff includes an adult nurse practitioner, nurse, and physical therapists, all providing the highest quality of patient care.

William M. Hovis, MD, FACS

Highly experienced in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, and work related injuries
Dr. William Hovis is one of the most experienced and respected active orthopaedic surgeons in the area. Dr. Hovis specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, which frequently enables him to improve patients' joint symptoms and function.
 His other areas of expertise include total joint arthroplasty, arthritis joint surgery, work-related injuries, sports medicine, and athletic injuries. He has built his reputation as a "Physician of Choice" for work-related injuries. When other treatment plans have failed, Dr. Hovis is sought out to provide a positive outcome with the best results possible.
Dr. Hovis earned his medical degree and graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. He completed a general surgery residency at Veterans Administration Hospital, associated with the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. He fulfilled an orthopaedic surgery residency and fellowship at Campbell Clinic and Foundation in Memphis, TN where he developed improvements in surgical techniques of total joint arthroplasty. Dr. Hovis is a United States Air Force Veteran, having served as a Flight Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon in Texas and Vietnam.
Dr. Hovis is a member of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, Tennessee Medical Association, Knoxville Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Tennessee Orthopaedic Society, and International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.

Lynn Butcher, APRN, BC, ANP

Nurse Practitioner, Practice Administrator, Billing Coordinator

Lynn Butcher, APRN, BC, ANP is a licensed adult nurse practitioner with more than 25 years’ experience in orthopedics, and she has been employed at Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic since 2001.
Lynn assists Dr. William Hovis in surgery, outpatient care, ensuring and coordinating care for patients during hospitalization. Her proficiency and organization skills are an asset while supervising surgical preparation, intraoperative anticipation, and post-operative patient needs.
In addition to her duties as a nurse practitioner, she also serves as the practice administrator and billing coordinator. She handles all administrative duties needed by the practice, it’s employees, and patients. She also handles all coding, billing, and patient accounts.

Lynn earned a master of science as an adult nurse practitioner and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Michael Hoag, PT, DPT, MBA, OCS, MTC

Operations Manager
Michael Hoag, PT, DPT, MBA, OCS, MTC is our operations manager and a physical therapist with more than 16 years’ experience providing outpatient orthopedic physical therapy care to the Knoxville, TN community. Mike has earned the prestigious credentials of an orthopedic certified specialist (OCS) and is manual therapy certified (MTC), ensuring that our patients receive quality care from highly trained specialists.
Michael has significant experience helping individuals return to work. His expertise includes directing work conditioning programs and developing pre-employment screening tools. He focuses on an exercise-based therapeutic program and biomechanical assessments, complemented with manual therapy interventions.
Michael received his BS in health from the University of Richmond in 1993 and a master of science in physical therapy from Texas Woman's University in 1995. He went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee with his MBA in 2000 and completed the DPT program with the University St. Augustine in 2011. Michael works with several sports programs and teams in the Knoxville area.

Annemarie Gray, PT

Physical Therapist
Annemarie Gray, PT, is a Knoxville native with over 14 years’ experience providing physical therapy primarily in the Knoxville area after initially spending several years working in Nashville. Annemarie's emphasis has been in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine.
Annemarie received her bachelor of science in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee, Memphis in 1985 after previously earning her bachelor of arts from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Annemarie joined Active Life Physical Therapy in 2010.

Kris Besola
Surgery Scheduling, X-Ray Technician, Clinical Liaison
Kris has worked in the medical field for over 25 years. She has over 15 years of experience in radiology. She has also worked as a health care office manager and clinical staff manager. She functions now at Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic as the patient care coordinator, surgery scheduler, and clinical liaison between our providers, patients, surgical facilities, and other healthcare providers. She coordinates all necessary lab work and clearances required prior to surgery as well as arranging initial physical therapy following surgery and follow up appointments for these patients. She is also an integral member of the clinical staff during clinic hours. She is responsible for coordinating the clinic schedule and patient preparation prior to being seen by the physician.
Sarah Hunt
Transcription, Medical Records
Sarah has more than 35 years of experience as a transcriptionist, and has been working for Dr. Hovis for more than 25 years. In addition to transcription, she is responsible for sending out all necessary medical records as requested by patients, other physicians, and workers’ compensation representatives. She also coordinates all second opinions and IME’s.
Amy Breeden  
X-Ray Technician, Procedure Scheduling
Amy has over 6 years of experience in the radiology field. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in radiology from South College in 2011. She is experienced in various areas of radiology including hard copy film, digital radiographs, ultrasound, CT, and MRI. In addition to taking x-rays during clinic hours, she also assists in the office with injections, obtaining patient information, and other duties as needed as a medical assistant. She is responsible for scheduling all procedures such as MRI, CT, EMG’s, and consultations. She also coordinates completing all FMLA and disability paperwork as needed by our patients.
