William M. Hovis, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery

Born in Washington, D.C., Dr. Hovis pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee and earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, where he graduated with honors and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society. He completed his internship through the University of Tennessee and City of Memphis Associated Hospitals. Dr. Hovis served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon, stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Laredo, Texas and Phu Cat Republic Vietnam. He was discharged with an honorable discharge. He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency and an Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship with Campbell Foundation and Clinic and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Dr. Hovis is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and has more than 25 years experience in total joint replacement surgery and sports medicine injuries. Dr. Hovis has extensive experience in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery and has a special interest in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder as well as total joint Arthroplasty. Over the years he has served as team physician for various schools and professional teams. Dr. Hovis is an active member of many medical professional organizations including: Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, International Arthroscopy Associates, Arthroscopy Association of North America and International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.

W. David Hovis, M.D.
Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery

Born in Laredo, Texas, Dr. Hovis is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from Webb School of Knoxville. Dr. Hovis holds a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Following his time at Duke, he studied genetics and European history at Oxford University in Oxford, England. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was awarded membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Hovis completed a general surgery internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and an orthopaedic residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado and served as the assistant team physician for the Denver Broncos football team. Dr. Hovis completed a Traveling Fellowship in shoulder surgery at the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Hovis is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and specializes in the treatment of sports medicine injuries and injuries of the knee and shoulder. He is a team physician for the United States Alpine Ski Team and works closely with the downhill and giant slalom ski team. He has published numerous articles and made many national presentations regarding his research, which focuses predominately on sports medicine and knee and shoulder injuries.

Peter E. Vonderau, M.D.
Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Vonderau joined the medical practice of Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic in 2006 as a physiatrist (physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation). He completed his undergraduate training at Virginia Tech and his medical degree at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He completed an internship at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio, and his medical residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Vonderau has been trained in interventional spine procedures and specializes in the non-surgical treatment of neck and back pain, and joint, muscle and nerve injuries. He has a background in sports medicine having served as a team physician for high school football, hockey, and wrestling.

Lynn Butcher, APRN, BC, ANP-Adult Nurse PractitionerLynn

Lynn assists Dr. William Hovis in surgery and outpatient office care. Her responsibilities include supervising all surgical procedures including preparation, intra-operative anticipation and postoperative needs of the patient. She holds a Master of Science degree as an adult nurse practitioner and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Tennessee. Lynn has worked in orthopedics for more than 15 years and has been with Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic since 2001.

Neil Hamilton, PA-C, MPASNeil Hamilton

Neil works as a physician assistant for Dr. Davis Hovis. He is first assist in surgery as well as in clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant studies from the University of Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso as well as a Master's degree with emphasis in Orthopedic Surgery from the University of Nebraska. Neil has been with Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic since 2003 and previously served at Henry County Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic in Paris, Tennessee.
